Lightweight performance clothing and equipment brand Montane has become the first technical outdoor manufacturer to receive a Gore license in over a decade, marking its Autumn / Winter 2016 season as the debut for its new GORE-TEX® collection.

The collaboration between Montane and the world’s leading developer of high performance textiles - W. L. Gore & Associates – will see Montane launch a GORE-TEX® specific range into its collection, comprising of shell and softshell jackets and pants and accessories.

Montane’s brand director Jonathan Petty said, “From the outset, our philosophy has always been about enabling aspiring athletes to go further, faster by offering a combination of premium, specifically selected fabric technologies, cutting edge construction techniques and ensuring that our clothing and accessories are designed for distinct outdoor mountain pursuits. Earning this Gore license is a great testament to our development and passion for applying and adhering to these principles. We are excited that this new partnership will see outdoor enthusiasts benefit from Montane’s exclusive designs combined with the total weather protection offered by Gore-Tex.

Rick MacDonald, spokesman for W. L. Gore & Associates said, “Montane dominates the ‘fast and light’ arena and its high adrenaline, ‘Further. Faster’ philosophy fits perfectly with the Gore brand ethos. As a young and dynamic British brand, Montane is growing quickly in size and status and our collaboration will see the development of some very exciting, cutting edge designs using leading Gore-Tex performance fabrics.

The Montane GORE-TEX® shell collection features three different Gore fabric technologies, each designed to meet the intense demands of alpinists, mountaineers, climbers, runners and walkers:

  • GORE-TEX® Pro for intense activities and extreme weather conditions
  • GORE-TEX® Active for high aerobic activities and cooler, mixed weather
  • GORE® C-Knit™ backer technology for low to mid activity levels and variable weather conditions

Gore WINDSTOPPER® is also incorporated in the collection to deliver high performance windproof breathable functionality.

Do Gore still insist on exclusivity? I count 5 different waterproof fabrics being offered on the website (NeoShell, eVent, AQUAPRO Dynamic, PERTEX Shield). Will any of the others be phased out now?

ME have offered jackets in Gore fabrics and their own Drilite for as long as I can remember. Perhaps Gore insist on not using a competitors product, not quite the same thing as exclusivity.

Aye, I don't think they're too fussed by non/own brand fabrics, Patagonia having H2No would be another example. Was mainly wondering if they'd be dropping NeoShell and perhaps eVent.

I thought everyone was moving away from Goretex because it's always been over priced and under performing!?! Or has it dramatically improved over the last 15 years or so?

Did put Jottnar have a license or don't you have to have a license to use gore tex
