Berghaus launches the Get Out Game as an antidote to Black Friday Press Release

Berghaus has launched an initiative to get people outside over the weekend that follows Black Friday. Instead of discounting products on its website, the company will hand out 1,000 prizes that can be claimed by visiting one of four outdoor locations in England, Scotland and Wales on Saturday 26 November. The only way to find the prizes is to solve a series of clues that will be given in the lead up to and on Black Friday, and then head outdoors the following day.

The Get Out Game has been designed as a mental and physical challenge for consumers and an antidote to the online bargain hunting that characterises Black Friday. Instead, on 25 November, members of the public who sign up to the competition at www.berghaus.com/GetOut and follow its progress, will be sent a final clue that will describe a journey into the outdoors. Early on Saturday 26 November, teams from Berghaus will plant flags at four destinations in the UK. The first five people to find each flag will win an Extrem Micro Down jacket from the brand’s latest range and there will be hundreds of additional prizes at each location. In total, 1,000 people will earn a Berghaus prize by completing the Get Out Game.

Richard Leedham, Berghaus brand president, comments: “Black Friday has become a phenomenon that now seems to last a whole weekend, but this is not a development that reflects the values we hold dear at Berghaus. Rather than indulge in the discount shopping mayhem, we think that a healthier alternative – for body and soul – is to explore the outdoors. We appreciate that some people might need an incentive to do that, which is where the Get Out Game comes in.

“There are no catches in this. It’s simply an initiative that will take everyone who participates on a journey into the outdoors that will provide rewards. Berghaus kit will be part of those rewards, but we hope that the biggest prizes that people take home are wonderful memories about great experiences in fantastic places.”
