To cut a long story short: Early season attempt of Hornli Ridge(3rd in 4 years) Only 10 people on the route (4 of which were a local swiss group) 8 of us ended in a similiar position to me in the photo! The other 2 were Norwegians and were moving faster and I'm assuming got down safe and well. Summited at 9am, Storm hit 15mins later, having traversed to the Italian summit! 4 Hours to descend to Solvay Hut in heavy snow and hail with lightning striking all around us, axes buzzing all the way (nearest strike 15 feet away, with absolutely no exaggeration!). Storm continued all day and next night. Lift down arrived 6 30am after rescuing many others on surrounding mountains not lucky enough to have the security of an emergency shelter! The storm was totally out of sync with the previous 9 days weather and certainly not forecast, especially not at 9am! might have expected it in the late afternoon but certainly not first thing in the morning! We were all very lucky and yes, the banter about being rescued hasn't stopped for 3 years!!!
