I've just been told these are sand lizards in their mating colours!
Shona H - 16/Oct/09
They are Lacerta vivipara (Common lizard) they are very variable in colour (http://www.arkive.org/viviparous-lizard/lacerta-vivipara/description.html). Sand lizards are found on the sandy heaths of Dorset but don't stray onto the limestone.
