This picture sends a shiver down to my digits. I have a pain and inflammation point exactly where you pic shows the break. How did you do it? Was it obvious at the time or was the true severity masked by your boots etc? and how did they fix it ? (long term or surgery?)
Good to hear that you are on the mend.

Thanks for your coments. I broke the fifth Metartarsal running up my stairs, 19 days before flying off to Chamonix! It took so long to mend because there was no surgery performed. As it happens the surgeon last Thursday said in most cases these type of injuries require surgery which consists of a screw being inserted the whole length of the metartarsal!

I don't recall any specific incident with mine, but if running up the stairs can do it then blimey, who knows what? My suspicions are on front pointing with disfunctional boots and crampons last season. Sods law yours happening before a big trip!!! A few years ago I broke a toe tripping over a step ladder in the hallway, 5 hours before an overnight coach trip to the Med, and leg room was not an upgradeable option.
I'm having the specialist look at it next week. Surgery is not appealing, but neither is hobbling around for the rest of my 'active' days. Anyway, cheers for the reply and keep up the scrambling.
