Adze under the shoulder/collar bone gives more control, more weight on the axe and makes it less likely to have it snatched out of your hands.

to be fair, if she was practicing falling head first, you initially put the axe in this position to swing you back round to feet first, then re-position the axe under the shoulder, so could be all good....
