Route: Commando Ridge
Camera used: Nikon D300. 70-200mm lens
I recall that it was quite cold and windy as I set up the tripod to capture this image, waiting for the setting sun just to dip onto the horizion. Someone later mentioned that just after the sun actually set, there is often a green flash of light as a parting gesture. I'm not up with the physics on this...

Great photo, Sean, superb, perfect timing and exposure! The green flash might be possible as you have to be at sea level to see it, in very clear conditions...it is very rare!

I've never seen a green flash, despite looking for it dozens of times. This photo is awesome, the exposure is nailed perfectly keeping rich colours in the sky and just enough detail in the sea to give the ridge the contrast it needs. I love it.

To paraphrase a friend of mine: You can never have too many photos of Commando Ridge.

Just goes to prove that timing is everything.
Best piece of photographic advice I ever heard -
"f8 and be there"...
Nice one Sean.
