Martin and I flogged up to the Mischabel hut overtaken by fit Germans who next morning likewise beat us to the face. We looked at each other: no need for the rope. So we soloed it returning via the Nadelgrat to the Nadelhorn unroped and got back round to see the Germans just arriving at the summit (they can be seen in the photo). A certain smug satisfaction.

I climbed this route in the late sixties with Dave Alcock and the Allison brothers, but this photo makes it look much steeper than I remember it.

I remember it well John - it took us a long time to complete the route. Did you take any photos ?
