Gordon Tinning leading circa mid 70's

Oh wow, this has made my day! We met Gordon at Trowbarrow about 1974 (maybe when this photo was taken)? He had some new route in mind. He looked a bit mysterious. I claimed he was The Man in Black.
My mate Deak's girlfriend confounded us by saying, "He's got gentle eyes." We were too young and silly to work that one out. And then he climbed with Deak. And then we realised he was a lovely, lovely person.
The dry sense of humour. The slow grin spreading across his face. Was gutted when he died. RIP Gordon. You were a great guy.

Thanks for that Mick. Yes, Gordon was a really great guy and a great climber. I did many a fine (often horrendously committing) route with him - usually rather wryly referred to by him as 'mens routes' - not very PC I guess but you get the point. It was indeed a black day when we lost him, he is gone but not forgotten.
