This was my third attempt to shoot this for my Peak book. It's quite a shady crag, and I asked Richard to wear the most colourful possible clothing! The shoot involved a lot of prussiking.

Nice shot Gordon - I have one of Richard from last year in my gallery now !

Do you know Richard? A great climbing character (as well as a great climber), and one of the very best and most amusing climber raconteurs I've ever met. If you go to a pub to talk to him about climbing be prepared for a long sesh!

Good shot. I'm becoming a convert to shooting limestone - it can be worth the extra effort involved over photographing the grit edges.

It usually involves quite a lot of work. I usually have the static line running through a protective sleeve at the top of the crag if there are sharp edges or it's quite dirty, as at the top of Willersley. I then had to jumar up to this position about 80 feet up. I use three ascendeurs: one foot ascendeur, one waist ascendeur and one separate one above, attached to a longish sling, and also a long foot loop. I also have a wooden sit seat which makes it a lot more comfortable. Actually, Richard McH, who teaches single rope techniques showed me the best system.
