Marathon Ridge (first winter ascent), Beinn Lair
© Dave McG, Feb 2007
Not the best of pics, but thought Dan Bailey might be interested to know the ridge has finally been climbed in winter...a classic line that we put off trying for several years due to the hideously long approach!

Good effort. Thought this might get a first ascent pretty quick after the seasonal notes in Dan Baileys book. I hope you didn't do all the new winter route potential on the crag as I am planning to get up there asap! Would be interested to hear how you got on.

Who's that really handsome bloke in the pic Dave??

Looks like an excellent line. What grade is it? And are you sure that Andy Nisbet and Simon Richardson haven't done it 10 years ago?
hwackerhage - 12/Feb/07
Quite sure, Andy climbed it with us! About III,4.

Superb stuff Dave, did it live up to expectations? That grotty little chimney pitch looks a lot better in winter. Glad to see my grade guesstimate wasn't too far off. You bugger though, I've only just writ that book and it's already out of date.

Fair play for the commitment involved in getting this line done. Glad it lived up to exspectations as well.

Well done then! Just let Andy know if he needs someone to hold the end of his rope then tell him that I would be more than happy to do so! ;-)
