I've always thought of doing that but never got round to it, do axes and poons hold well on hay/straw?

Its very weird - they hold really well! It's similar to real ice climbing, so makes for good practice when the weather's warm.

I thought I was the only person who'd ever tried this. I concur..great fun but you need to climb the bales on hte short edges....I had a "moment" when climbing a bale on a long edge and it started to topple over towards me...luckily I managed to take my weight off before it toppled too far...would have been crushed !! I was also picking bits of sraw out of clothes for weeks afterwards.
