Come out well.

A great photo, on a hard route.

Like it - great texture/colour in the rock. I'd darken down the top left sky though as it draws the eye to it and away from the climber (perhaps lighten the climber and area as well).

Great Picture Jon, really sums up climbing at the Roaches.

An awesome photo. I love the sky, just sums up climbing at the Roaches so wonderfully.

Thanks for all the positive comments. Chris, I was rather pleased with the little ray of light picking out Bosley Cloud, and now you want me to get rid of it [sob]. To me, it helps add a bit more depth to the background. I'm aware that the rock and climber look too dark on some monitors; perhaps it's time for me to get some callibration gear.

Hey Jon - that bit of light on Bosley Cloud is just great: I was more thinking about the blowout top left. This image will look just great as a big moody print! And do you want to get out and shoot some panos some time?
ChrisJD - 21/Jan/08
I suppose the darkness of the climber shows how subtle we can (sometimes) be, just a little speck in this awesome enviroment.
Good picture- and nice to see positive comments for once on UKC- obviously photographers are the people to get to know some more!

Chris: ah, ok. It's blown out on the original (HDR of 3 jpgs, from a single RAW pic), but I'll see what can be done. Yes, I'd love to get out and have a pano masterclass!

I know nowt about photography, but I like the way it goes from almost black at the botom to white at the top. I think it looks like the route felt too, which I suppose is what a photographer is looking for. Nice one Jon.

What software did you use for this?
I have tried HDR, but can never get a realistic looking image

I used Paint Shop Pro. There's only one parameter you can change with this (other than the load in files) and I keep that down below .5. Anything above that tends to cause too much halo.
