Nice photo. the guidebook describes this climb as being well protected so why is it E1 5a?

hmmm difficult one. Some folk think its just HVS (if they are very fit) but the lower half is steep and sustained. If you are very flexible you can fashion a rest. The upper half is fine but steepens up again so its best to run it out and top out. I would recomend it as a first E1 though with it having a half height ledge to retreat to.

Not fookin' HVS that's for sure. Solid E1, sustained and more like 5b direct in the lower half. Great route tho.
