Notes
The Rucksack Club was founded in Manchester in 1902 and with a current membership of over four hundred men and women has always attracted keen mountaineers who value the company of like-minded people in the hills. Our members and activities are spread all over the country (indeed the globe) but with our roots still in the north west.

What do we do?

The Club organises a tremendously varied programme of about 150 meets each year. Weekends might see members climbing rock from Stanage to Gogarth, undertaking some of the long walks for which the Club is well known (some would say notorious), or ice-climbing on the Ben. Longer trips focus on mountaineering in the Alps or sun-rocking in warmer climes. Many members are active participants in other outdoor pursuits: canoeing, caving, cycling, orienteering, skiing and so on, and these sports also feature regularly in the programme.

During the week there’s also a climbing meet every Wednesday throughout the summer, continued during the winter on indoor walls, and generally ending in a pub for further “training”. Wednesdays will also find a team out enjoying a walk somewhere in the Peak District.

Take a look at www.blog.rucksackclub.org to catch up on some of the latest happenings.

Why join us?

Most of our members joined to share the companionship of like-minded individuals in enjoying the outdoors. Members also benefit from access to the Club’s three excellent and strategically placed huts: Beudy Mawr at the heart of the Llanberis Pass, High Moss in the Duddon Valley at the foot of the Walna Scar track over to Coniston, and Craigallan looking out over Loch Linnhe within easy reach of Glencoe and the Ben. Members are also affiliated to the BMC and therefore have access to insurance and a range of other services. Other benefits include discounts at many outdoor shops and climbing walls.

What do I do next?

Why not come along on one of our meets – maybe an evening at a local crag or a weekend in one of the huts? This is a great way of getting to know the Club and some of its members. Our membership secretary will be delighted to provide you with information about forthcoming meets and more details about the club. Get in touch via the website: www.rucksackclub.org or email join@rucksackclub.org

You'll also find details of our new "Associate Membership" which means you can start to get involved with the Club immediately, whilst you progress to full membership AND become an Affiliated Member of the British Mountaineering Council (BMC), and be covered by its civil liability insurance.

Why not join us? – you will be very welcome
