Notes Ads say it's the North-west's largest climbing centre, with 16m+ and that it caters for "little angels to rock gods". Started March 99, includes 16.5m lead wall overhanging 8m, 14m toprope walls; 27TR, 28 lead routes. Also bouldering and traversing, campus board.
Any new members under the age of 18 should be accompanied by an adult on their first time as they will need someone to countersign the membership form
The owner writes: "A very friendly atmosphere in a very big old church, with loads of wall to go at, some easy, some hard, lots in the middle. Main lead wall 16.5m high overhanging by 8m. All other lead walls average height 14m. Unique totally featured 12m free-standing pinnacle. Four bouldering areas with fixed matting & two traversing walls. Separate toproping/group area. 55 rope lines in total with up to four easily identifiable routes on each, changed regularly. Used by British junior and senior teams for regular training, and used for the BICC 5 years running.
Hot and cold refreshments available, with "probably the best cookies in the world". Most heard phrase when leaving: 'I'm knackered, where's the pub?' [David Douglas 7/00 - but he does run the place so may be faintly biased.]

I went down with a mate from Lancaster, and we were gonna sue for trade descriptions act, if it wasn't Awesome. It was. Fantastic place, with LOADS of bouldering, and some excellent leads. Unfortunately some panels were closed at the time, due to re-setting after the comps, but awesome nonetheless. Well worth a visit, if you're in the area.

Went on saturday morning and had a really good time. The routes were well graded and good fun with a large number of leading walls and in situ ropes. The bouldering downstairs was good as well, including some easier routes for people like myself. The only problem was the lack of a changing room and showers.

Packs a lot of climbing into a relatively small space. Some excellent route-setting, and good variety of angles & holds on F5 to F6c+ grades that I tried. Great value for money at only £6 to visit (no need pay a joining fee, etc) :)
Negative points for lack of a gear shop, no cafe (just sells drinks and a few cakes) and the freezing cold outdoor toilets!

Directions available on website, plenty of free parking.
Went with my 12 year old son for the first time and had a great day out. Apparently gets pretty busy in the evening. Lots of top ropes, plentiful variety of leads across the grade range. Novice to experienced won’t be disappointed. Give it a go, you will not be disappointed!

This place is fantastic! The staff are very friendly and even a complete novice feels welcome. I invite anyone who wants to to go
