SUMMER 2016 UPDATE: The indoor wall has now been removed from the Clickimin Leisure Centre. A new climbing wall will be built early 2018, located in the Aith Leisure Centre. Please see www.climbshetland.co.uk for updates.
The Clickimin Climbing Wall opened officially on the 11th September 2006. It is a flat panel wall with 6 fixed top ropes. The wall is 8m high with an arete and overhang. Leading is possible and routes range from 4a to 7a. To climb at the wall you must have undertaken the induction. Induction sessions for climbers are arranged by Climb Shetland. If you are not competent at belaying, tying in etc then you must attend a beginner's induction course, organised by the Clickimin Centre.
The Clickimin Wall is the first wall in Shetland and has proved a huge success. It has provided the local climbing club, Climb Shetland, a chance to meet in all weathers and will hopefully generate far more interest in the sport in the islands. The wall was initially set with easier routes, but harder lines have now been set for more advanced climbers. The routes will be changed about every year. More details, and photos can be found on the Cimb Shetland website.
