North face** D+
[Looking down the Aiguille Blanche North face toward the chaotic Brenva Glacier, 2 kb]700m. Probably one of the biggest snow/ice plod in the Alps... Treat the "descent" as the hardest bit. One of the most serious 4000m mountains in The Alps.

Deep unconsolidated snow on the Brenva glacier plateaus lead to wallowing, which carried on while we were beneath the Col de Peuterey. Stonefall from the col was disconcerting as we could not move fast to avoid it due to the wallowing. Hard ice on the face was much more secure, albeit tiring. Descent to the Col de Peuterey was awkward, visibility vanished as we were crossing to the Eccles couloir, sign of the approaching storm. We only just found the bivi huts before it hit with full force, a wild night.
