[Topsail from the floor - think positive thoughts!, 2 kb]

12m. A classic and low in the grade - except for the short! Approach the overhang via a crack and groove (big thread) and grope then power through the bulge using the flake. The slab above is easy by comparison! Photo page 337. © ROCKFAX
Please don't place a cam in the crack below the roof - it's unnecessary and is badly eroding the soft rock (which means it probably won't hold you either)

Found the sling runner. Looked really solid. holds very worn. Avoided cam slot in the roof, didn't have a cam for this anyway. Really enjoyed it. Had to think about the crux but once I'd found the flake, it was over too soon.

I acknowledge that the sling is bomber, but also think that VS is fair because the average HS leader won't be used to leaving their gear that far behind. A one move wonder, but definitely worth the romp.

Great climb, I seconded this last year and thought I would never lead it but with a little push from my buddy Rob I got on and gave it a go, glad I did it's a great climb and quite easy if you get your feet right unlike how I scrabbled through it. Very soft VS 4c; more like HS 4b, which is what it is in the old blue book we were using. Not sure what the point is about the cam placement. It seems solid to me and no worse worn than anything else on this sadly overpopular crag. Ho hum. Not sure why it's in Classic Rock, either - it's very nice but so are lots of routes!

Insanely easy for a VS. I would call it HS maximum and have deffonately done a harder Severe. Crack upto the overhang is very simple, no problems there, quite wide but easy to romp up. Got to the overhang. Slung the thread, concidered the worn cam placement, decided I didn't want to ruin it any more than it already was. The move feels like it is quite committing, but you have a bomber thread at knee level so it's not really. Being 5"9 it is relatively easy to reach the flake jug, although it does feel quite committing at the position you are in (sloper/ledge for your right hand) as soon as this is grabbed it's all over, high foot and step up and a very easily angled slab above. One move wonder, HS 4b, 2 stars I would say.

my first lead, when I was 14 or 15 (even smaller than I am now), sandbagged into it by being told it was a one move wonder (ok, they were right). Only placed one bit of gear - sling at the back of the overlap then had to jump for the hold over the lip, nearly wet myself!
