Herford's Girdle Traverse** VS 4b
[Herford's Girdle Traverse Castle Naze, Stephen martin and Jim Goodman VS, 2 kb]90m.

Rockfax Description
90m. Seigfried Herford invented the genre here, the route that spawned a thousand imitations from Scafell to El Cap. Left to right is usual from the start of the cliff to Deep Chimney and an hour was thought a good time in the 1920s. Reaching and descending Keep Corner is generally regarded as the crux, especially for the second man. The precise line and the stances are left for the adventurer to rediscover. © ROCKFAX

Graeme Hammond - Solo O/S - 09/Nov/14 with The Famous Grouse

Thought this was really worth doing not too taxing but pretty exposed in places.
Bloke on a Rope - Solo O/S - 18/May/14 with Jake, Matt

Really worthwhile. Never used the top of the crag as a hold and found a path across at no more than 4c apart from crossing Pod crack and Pitoned crack which I took at about 2/3s height using a couple of airy 5b moves. It would be more logical to use the top of the crag here to keep the climb at a more consistent grade I think.

Got slightly benighted around Keep Arete. A fun evening's adventure.
victim of mathematics - AltLd O/S - 27/Jul/11 with Dan

We had hoped to go to North Wales but were too knackered to get up early. This route is an excellent outing, posing some interesting route finding problems and what i felt was quite exposed climbing. Rope drag can become a problem! Done in 4 pithces thanks to Graeme hauling a huge length of rope on the last one.
Steve Palmer - AltLd O/S - 14/Jun/11 with Graeme Baxter

done in 4 pitches. some exposed unprotected climbing. felt more HVS 4c at times. Fantastic route
