Really unique climb - p1: Crag clean up. p2:put a sling on the spike (tree spike!) & climb to the very top of the old yew tree - I mean the very top, within a couple of inches - get your hands on the good (rock) holds and trust more will appear, then launch off. Top pitch is great too. Probably much more enjoyable when its not wet!

Haydn's first E1 and done in fine style. A well protected,steep, strenuous, sustained and superb top pitch. I got the tree! Actually very straight forward and easier than many 4c pitches on this crag.

In 2 pitches, Nick led first two and me the second two. What a stupendous route, from the incredibly exposed step off the holly tree, to the balancy traverse up the gangway, to blind moves above bottomless drops, and the pump keeps coming... great, one of the all time classics!!!

Great route. Found the top pitch very taxing - I don't think the technical difficulty was more than 5a after the first few moves, but found it outrageously strenuous, particularly given the blind moves to be worked out.

Alan lead the first pitch of Zigzag instead of this as it looked horribly wet. I led the tree pitch (great fun, and as someone else said the tree's much shorter now than in that picture!) onsight, fell on the crux pitch at the blind move after the ramp, swung back roung to the belay ledge and led it clean. Really good climbing, wish I hadn't fallen!

Brilliant route, led the first pitch of an adjacent route which was green slimey and wet but not quite has horrific as the start of this looked! Had to scramble up some mud and rotten lichen, whipped a sling around a tree, swang round it to get the rope straight, climbed up it a bit and bridged out to access the ramp. Romped up this slowly until near the top where theres a bit of a trickey move across a corner. Second pitch was brilliant fun, climbing up trees, a precarious step out onto a worryingly wobbley tree, and reach out to jugs on the main face. Scared myself when I realised there was a 4m traverse with swing-into-wall potential! But easy monkey swinging across the jugs into the corner and up onto the ledge. Tom took a fall off the crux top pitch, and I'm not suprised, pumpy moves up a ramp until you can reach out blindly to a corner in a very hard move. From here swing round left until you get a bit of a rest in a recess. Moves out of the recess are again very pumpy and quite odd but very fun. Its routes like these which make me think I will never pluck up the courage to lead E1, stopper pitches like the 3rd which I could only do as I didn't have to put in the gear and had beta on the hardest routes. It's also routes like these which make me want to lead E1... Absolutely flawless apart from the first pitch which turned out to be brilliant fun anyway!

Pitches 2,3 and 4. The pitch up the tree and move onto the buttress made me giggle like a wee girl. Last pitch was very nice, steep sustained and exposed. AWESOME ROUTE! Sure there was a few 5c moves on the last pitch tho and it was pretty steep and sustained for e1, Maybe I was just climbing crap.

The scene of my longest fall (so far) - having wrestled with the tree and climbed to the belay ledge I managed to snap a small flake off that was just keeping my balance. Dave had paid out enough rope for me to reach the belay and was surprised when I reappeared almost level with him, cursing. No problems on the second attempt. A fine climb.
