Sardien 22/Nov 2nd dnf

First pitch only to get to Scratch arete. This was absolutely soaking wet! Quickdraw pull below the tree was felt to be the correct mountaineering choice.

No? Yes! 17/Oct Lead

P1only as time ran out.Good value 'easy' 5b ? and seems to have as many variations for a top pitch as the first to go back for.

P1 only. Climbed to the peg but the crack after the overlap was quite vegetated. Didnt seem well protected off the belay and the guidebook description doesnt mention a peg or a step back right... Hmm

Led P1 (Mangoletsi Direct Start). Gwen led P2 which was good - cool layback moves through the roof. Better and easier than Barbarian.

First pitch was dripping, so Hol led the first pitch of Scratch. I led the 6a pitch...brilliant, but couldn't make the moves through the roof, so was forced to aid this bit. Suprised this route doesn't see more ascents, although the Tremadog guidebook description of the 2nd pitch is terrible. It omits to tell you there are two roofs, and that you need to step left from the top of the big flake at the Scratch belay, effectively bypassing the 1st roof. There's a lone peg lower down, but I'm pretty sure this is not the route (definitely didn't look like well-protected 6a, as it's supposed to be). Once I'd worked out where to go, really enjoyed it!

Crux. In situ wire on lip of bulge saved some energy on steep bit of crux but then found the transition to delicate climbing hard. Just hung in on the slab above, stuffing R.P'S in on the thin crack, and teetering upwards.Looked across at this recently and appeared to have vegitation in the crack - no longer the testpiece it once was?
