Great varied route, first 2 chimneys insufficiently icy so skirted around. Turf frozen, snow mostly solid in great nick. Felt top end III.

Superb 3 star route climbed in great condition. Bypassed 2nd chimney as insufficient ice build up. Tool left hamd variant at suatained grade III. Had amazing sun set over Wastewater at top.

Snow a little inconsistent for first rope length (we needed to skirt immediately left of the first two short steep sections to find suitably stable snow) but really good névé after that. Gear was hard work to find.

Snow was soft on the approach but improved massively with height until gorgeous neve for the top half of the climb. Fantastic fun.

Chimneys were pretty bare, but a good day out. The chimney on P4 was completely dry and looked very hard, so took corner on the left which was very good ice/mixed climbing.

Only given 2 stars above definitely worth 3.

Bitterly cold wind blasts. Led first two brutal chimneys as one long pitch (footprints suggest these oft avoided - partner balked at 2nd chimney and did left variant). Did first half of Smart Exit on steep headwall. Then traversed 40m back to route for the "Smuggler's Retreat". Great area to climb with loads of variants to suit ability and mood. Really ballsy interesting chimneys: took us ages - as ever.
