UKC

A great peak for beginners to Alpine climbing, offering a small glacier and a long but technically easy ridge. From Vailefroide, take the path leading towards Refuge du Goléon and Lac du Goléon. You can either spend the night at the refuge, bivvy near the refuge or further up the valley, or do the full route as a long day from Vailefroide. Follow the path past Lac du Goléon, which at the end of the valley branches NW up glacial moraines to Glacier Lombard (there are a few signposts saying you are on route 18). Cross the glacier (short and not very crevassed) to the col at 3236m, and then follow the ridge easily (UIAA I at most) to the summit.
