270m. Above Grange campsite (the field above the road), follow path that starts from the top corner of the field up and left until it crosses a little river. This is Gate Gill, so scramble up past various boulders. Mainly grade 1-2 scrambling, although a grade 3 section also shows up, though this may be easily bypassed. BRIAN EVANS has it at scrambling grade 2-4 in Scrambles in the Lake District Vol 2 Northern Lakes presently, naturally this will depend on line taken. Both the grade 3 and 4 pitches can be, and usually are, avoided. The grade 4 (VD+ pitch (though waterfall pitches easily become any grade dependent on water volume)) is avoided on the right by a juniper slope, if grade 4 pitch is led, a rope and gear will undoubtedly prove essential as it involves climbing the waterfall direct high up.
