A good skin-fist-ripping-beaster: especially if you don't traverse too much into the finish.

From the bottom this looks like a bit of a disjointed route with the big ledge at half height. In fact, it gives three really nice separate sections. The first is quite a tricky move over a bulge. The second is two solid arms jams with a lovely layback flake to exit the crack. I did the last bit as a tricky traverse into the massive final crack. The break is too big for fist jams and hard to arm jam but does have some hidden undercuts. Definitely worth doing (especially because you can belay off the cross!)

After two weeks we have finally found a gap to get out again! Weather looked fine and I was already north of Huddersfield (Jills house) so we decided to finally test out this whole Yorkshire business! Was prepared for a tough time and found it with this route! Initial bulge is ok if a little tricky. Then there is the cracked bulge, perfect protection but a hard 4b/4c jamming move. After a few step ups to it (trying to place gear and find jams without pumping out, also looking for other useful holds) I had moved my gear down to chest level, and found a good off-hand jam. Pulled hard on this trying to find footholds, and made it over the top, more elegantly than I had expected from when I looked at it. Moved up over the broken ledge. Couldn't decide whether I was supposed to go directly into the wide crack or move in from the right. Started by going up right because I needed some gear anyhow, slapped in a perfect big cam. And tried moving out left, felt quite hard on jams just that little bit too big so reversed it to try a direct attempt. Pulled on two relatively good slopers and got a half decent handjam in the corner of the break, shuffle into the niche and stand up into the wide crack. Put some gear in the depths of it and climbed the arete with one unexpected balancy suprise. Dad followed easier until he hit the top section which he fell once or twice on before finally getting it.
