Slow progress due to damp rock & moss: ended up pitching a lot more than we anticipated. Enjoyed the 40' corner. Combined tactics on the Man Trap to avoid wasting time. The whole route took 8.5 hours! Reached the summit at 8pm. Great day.

A fine route. Beautiful exposure and fine situations - a wonderful mountain route to solo. A solo ascent of the man trap probably isn't to be recommended for those of a nervous disposition - particularly in wet weather.

We should have known when we saw snow on the Ben on the drive in, fabulous sunny start. Big boots and gloves, started off with a bit of verglas and got worse, the mantrap completely iced up - thick ice! Skated around in a terrified manner, what a lark? Crampons would have been in order -it's only the end of September! Said 300m in our guide, gives 500 in the new one. That would explain the extra rope lengths and doing the last few in the dark. Fabulous sunset over Tower ridge though and we made last orders!
