Really strong winds, loads of snow. Could find easy path onto Crib Goch Ridge so I decided to lead a cool looking grade II/III gully with an off vertical start. Pretty horrendous and terrifying. Went up one pitch then abbed off leaving two slings. Noobs on tour!

A positively Alpine-esque day! Starting out at first hint of dawn, the sun broke over the horizon at Bwlch Moch. Ideal conditions for the polariser lenses to capture the contrasts of snow/blue sky/cloud. Thanks to the hundreds who trampled nicely compact paths on Sat/Sun for me to make easy progress and 'ski' back down the PYG (especially up top by the zig zags!) No metal-work 'necessary' but advisable - ice axe only saw 5 minutes use on the steeper upper part of the East Ridge of Crib Goch Start: 7am Pen y Pass Summit: 12:30-13:30 (lots of photos takes time!) Descent: Pyg Track, back for 14:30

Starting at Ynys, scrambled up the North Ridge of Crib y Ddysgl on snowed up rock and turf, passing a couple of tricky sections where an axe came in handy. Didn't bother going to the summit and instead went down Crib Goch, turning left at the bifurcation of the ridge and then descending into Cwm Glas back to Ynys. Were able to move pretty quickly over the snowed up rock. Very enjoyable scramble with an Alpine feel. We were mostly in the sun on Crib Goch but it was quite windy most of the time, which was the only downside to a great day. Started at 9.40 and back around 4pm. Su's friends Paul and John also came along with us.

Excellent ridge. It was dry but very windy when I traversed it. Easy, with loads of rock to hold onto and if your bottle goes there's a track a few feet down off the crest.
