Small Group of us turned up at Causey Quarry 6pm on the 21st Sep 08, Most of us were Novices with an experianced climber with us. I decided we'd climb the Crack and Chimney Situated in the left hand corner of the main wall. With the amount of rain we have had latley the wall was suprisingly dry in most parts. Being 6ft 2in in height getting up the first part of the route was quite the challange, as there was an overhang just above the first ledge this was quite tricky to traverse along with my centre of gravity being off blance. However one got accross fine....Just! once the overhang was mostly cleared there where a few nice foot holds, a few cracks in the stone above good for jamming. Once up was time to traverse back to the corner, very few foot holds and the ones that are there are just enough to get your toes in, i managed this wearing trainers with no grips (i'd say this was probably the hardest part). Once i reached the corner it was a case of placing my foot in the crack to levy myself up to the lefge, which had more then enough room for a quick stop to re chalk before heading in the the crack to chimney up. I found chimneying up the crack was quite easy for me once i got near the top there is a nice large rock for me to get both my hands on and pull myself up, Once i was up as far as i could go, i had to twist my body so i was once again back against the crack and push out as if i where going to chimney again, this gave me time to have a quick look to see where my next move was. I found a nice sturdy tree root just above my head, wich i found perfect to help me get my shoulders out of the crack before before lifting myself out completley to reach the top of the climb. i felt an immense sense of self victory as i have struggled to climb any thing all the way to the top on causey quarry as the novice that i am, but i must admit all the reading i have done over the past few weeks on techniques and moves has seriously paid off. Now i can't wait for my next challange :)
