The Grack Center*** 5.6
[the grack. one of very many cracks to be climbed in yosemite, 3 kb]100m, 3 pitches. From the right-hand end of the ledge: 1) Climb up through the broken corners (many variations, some 5.6 most easier) until moves on the right of a handing nose lead to a belay ledge (possible peg and tat insitu) 2) "The" pitch. Follow the obvious splitter crack for 50m. Use either just crack, or just face, with perfect gear and brilliant moves either way. Belay in small pod. 3) Follow the crack until it stops, then make delicate moves up and left to bolted belay and rap station. The descent can be done in two raps if requiring two 60m ropes - Remember to tie knots in the end of the ropes! The first rap misses a rap station after 30m, and finds a second rap station only ~5m above the ropes end. The final rap DOES NOT reach the ground, but puts you never enough to scramble off easily.

Superb "splitter" crack but ankle breaking waiting for slower higher party to clear the small stance at the end of the second pitch. 2 x 60m ropes didn't quite reach the lower set of bolts so we abseiled off in three sections.

Last route of the trip. A good one to unwind on. We look like proper dirtbags and we've all got 1,000 yard stares. Back in 2012!

Jammin. 'What a spliter' as the yanks would say. Rachel led 'the' pitch, found final finger crack disconcerting.

Kirsten led P1 & 3 in fine style. In spite of the low grade this felt like VS. A good route which showed us that our crack climbing was way too slow for the big routes.

Awesome low-grade crack climbing. Slabby enough such that you could just climb the surface with gear in the crack, but thoroughly enjoyable either way!
