Dirty, and hard for HVS imo - two other hard sections besides the well protected 5b crux. Stone Muppet - Lead O/S - 14/Jul/11 with ah, jg

Got tired figuring out the start and placing two cams in the crack .. hands didn't want to know so just let my self fall. Unfortunately the cams ripped and I landed on my back and right side .. heading off down into the undergrowth with Ward following still attached to the ropes.
I may have tried putting in bigger cams, could have tried pulling on them a bit more to see whether the'd hold but at the end of the day the crack system was dusty and always looked a big marginal for cam placements (Ward and I had been chatting about cams and limestone and their reliability just 5 minutes previously). In hindsight I may have been able to get a nut into the bottom of the crack system.
UPDATE: Wandered past this line last week and looking up at it I have to admit that I should have used nuts in the crack. Should not have relied on cams and should not have thought that resting on cams was an option.
Lesson learnt.
In fact it's actually quite strange how much more I'm placing nuts on routes this year :-) Dax - Lead dnf - 10/Jun/08 with Ward
