|The Notch||VS 4c|
|15m. Guidebook grade HS is a 1960s hangover; upgraded by the moderator to VS. Follows the obvious corner crack higher in the face to the right of Singapore. An engaging old trad. climb, which has been disfigured by random addition of several staples, most of which are now cut and useless. However, it can still be led as a worthwhile trad. route. Wait for dry conditions and take some large gear. Cleaned July 2014. Climb to an obvious ledge just above head height, then follow an awkward sequence to reach a larger ledge. Make a steep move up a crack, then move rightwards and up into the main corner, to reach an overhang (intact staple to the right). The recommended finish is straight on up the corner (strenuous) to top out via. a triangular bay. Tree belays. As originally described, the route moves left to skirt the overhang and comes back right (this LH variant has now been rendered somewhat pointless as a continuation of the trad. climb by the distraction of the staples used by the top of Singapore). |
