A classic into into gully climbing. Must now be climbed early in the year as it is often unformed by the time the main season arrives. Could be combined with the Col Est du Pelvoux to make a mega gully.

This climb is in 5 logbooks, and on no wishlists.
Soloed this with Dave while Mike soloed the Coolidge Couloir. Was in good nick after a cold night. Mostly frozen snow, some ice, rock and mixed (well, one foot on snow/ice and the other on rock!), making for a nicely varied climb. Hardly any rock fall, whereas the Coolidge Couloir next door was raining rocks apparently and someone got hit in the shoulder and had to be helicoptered out. Went on to do the traverse via the Violettes Glacier, which was complicated - 8 abseils in total, includin one over a shrund off an in situ rock buried in the snow. 5 hours up (bit slow, had to wait for Dave and Mike) and 10 down (slow as there were three of us and lost at least an hour waiting for a party of four ahead of us on the abseils - however guidebook time for the descent of 3 - 5 hours still looks very optimistic!).
