Ended up soloing up the first ice pitch which a bit of a pant filler despite me encouraging Brannock to keep on going and to not lower me a rope *gulp*. Brannock took the first lead and ended up running the narrows and the steep ice pitch (crux?). I couldn't work out why so much ice was coming down seeing as we were following another party (though some way behind), it turns out whilst everyone has turned the narrows John had gone straight for the steepest bit. Seconded up to find John right in the line of fire for the next pitch on a lovely three screw belay and after a quick change over and the tidiest belay I have ever seen I lead the last ice pitch before John topped out the route. Nipped up the Ben afterwards for a quick victory bag!

Awesome route, soloed up to the narrows which ben wasn't to happy with after a slight miscommunication, I got the first proper pitch, probably went a bit past the normal belay so had to belay off ice screws. Ben led what was probably the crux, then I got the final pitch to the plateau. Great conditions, fat ice all the way, perfect sunshine and brilliant views from the summit. One of the best days out Ive ever had in Scotland.

Really nice, but short, gully. Not a lot of ice, but enough to climb and protect. Good belays in rock, but hard to find. that day at least 2 more teams did the route, so there's no cornice at the end and there is good trail at the last snow slope, which we soloed. 2h. Blue sky day, maybe the only one this season?

Soloed to the narrowing, dodging the soft bits of ice falling off the buttresses into the gully. Took the lead on the first pitch, finding the snow soggy and the ice a little slushy. Had intended belaying below the crux, but couldn't find any gear that would hold, so led final steep section, topping out precariuously onto soft snow, but with two bits of fixed gear left from yesterday. After bringing up my 2nd, decided to ab off rather than face the mealstrom on the plateau above. Lots of debris falling into the gully by now, so made a quick escape back into the corrie. Found it much easier than expected, steeps sections short lived and interspersed with easy ground. In better conditions would figure it would be even easier.

After the long approach, the two technical pitches were excellent: the first long and quite varied, and the second short but steeper. The ice was shattering on the top of the bulge on the 2nd pitch, producing some panicky gibbering from me on lead!

Reckon this route would normally be straightforward but a lot of unconsolidated snow and only partially frozen ice dominated things today making protection sparse. Adze of axe used at times because pick cut through the soft snow! Careful distribution of weight across crampons and axes required!

Bombed out by ice from party above, had to take our instructor to hospital with a detached retina after he was hit in the eye. When I took him into the hospital they thought I was the casualty - I hadn't realised my face was covered in blood from a tiny nick on my nose from the falling ice.
