This climb is in 3 logbooks, and on no wishlists.
I had tried this with lewis earlier, but failed to get over the roof. I tried today and managed to do my direct start, clipped the peg and then returned to the ground. I then went up again, tried various moves and then just pulled over the roof from right of the peg, a mega reech to good holds, but then i had to get my feet at head height to rock over and mantle on the lip of the overhang, my last good runner some way below. the top is very loose, but as with the first ascent a way can be hacked through trending rightwards. I had to ab back down to get gear and realised how steep it was when i couldn't even reech the gear- i commented on how it looked like a sport route. E3 5c? maybe, but an extremly pumpy one. Direct start made it feel E4 6a.
First route at Peak Scar! After trying to free the Whitestone traverse the day before, over 9 hours and bivying in a layby with only one pack of noodles for the two days. I then proceeded to 2nd Dat Der with trainers and A rucksac for alittle more Alpine training. :-) Franco Cookson OLD - Lead O/S - 25/Jul/08 with David Warburton
