Brilliant route - classic mountaineering .The VD grade is traditional. On a couple of pitches the protection is very poor. Probably need a grade in hand to lead this.If you are just leading VD you are going to have a challenging day.

Aimed for Grooved Arete. Lost crag in missed. A brief clearing showed us Juniper Butress so we climbed that instead. Half way discovered we were on Sentinel. Weather cleared beautifully for our decent where discovered we actually climbed Wall and Crack climb. 7 pitches done in just 3. We even lead the scramble up first too.

Excellent route. Sustained interest on every pitch. Cracks all a bit slimy but that added to the 'interest'. Very highly recommended and no pushover. Worth three stars. Led P1&2,5,6&7. running first and last two together works fine.

Big boots and sacks. Lots of verglass, dusting of snow and v.cold. Pete forgot gloves so lent him mine and got frost nip after leading an icey second pitch which was bold and scarey in the conditions. Not to be underestimated in such conditions.
