The Beast, it's name describes the route very well indeed as you need to be a beast to climb this brutal route, offers little protection that is worth while apart from a skinny sling round a large ledge before crux two. As stated below this really is a solo/top rope problem very low quality lead problem but awesome solo or top rope problem, a classic craigmore test tbh.
18/Sep/12: A great route that offers some nail bitting moves and some real balls, top ropes went well and will have a go on the trad once i sort out the top link. Gear less tbh couple of small micros followed by a possible sling round a large ledge. dmacmorris - Lead rpt - 25/Oct/12 with Kevin Woods
19th Sept '12: cruised the first TR in 6 months. A total surprise, so ready to lead. 25th Oct: got round to leading. Retreated from the groove a couple times, so sorted my bottom sequence on TR. Cruised so went for lead. One shallow micro nut at 10 metres and a pad so really a highball/solo. Found myself a wee bit shaky with adrenaline but calm all round. There's many ways to use the holds to climb this one, many feel desperate, others less so. There's also suspect gear placements all the way up. It seemed safest to highball to the top instead of fiddling gear in + pumping out. Fun and serious climb, glad to have lead it.
(Comments 29th March '12: Found it simply hard, awkward and a struggle even on TR! A fun climb which took a while to work out. I don't really want to imagine doing it on lead. I didn't like the eliminate at the top. I wanted to pull up with a foot around the arete the way the moves went, but resorted to brute strength to pull on crimps. Frustrating but quality.) Kevin Woods - Lead RP - 25/Oct/12 with David Macmorris
Dirty, friable rock combined with hard, committing moves with groundfall potential made me decide that this probably wasn't the best idea. Unfortunately I was past the point of no return so had to get a toprope dropped down. Highly eliminate in the upper section too. Neil Adams - Lead dnf - 20/Apr/10 with Ross B
good hard route, excellent moves though! (might have been the rain!) michael83 - TR dog - 04/Aug/09 with Shuntee
