One of those days that started badly and ended well. Interestingly thin section

Half of first pitch buried. Drew led the first pitch, 'bold' climbing but ice and neve were just good enough in places. 2nd pitch was tricky and ice only just fat enough to take a short screw. Next part was just a steep snow plod. Abseil 'stake' was completely buried so abbed of some in situ gear left by some guys who'd just done scabbard chimney.
Andy Hewison - AltLd O/S - 09/Feb/14 with Drew Connelly

Wild weather. Working with Alex. More an ice route at the moment with little protection.

first proper mixed route, and winter leading. lack of visibility reduced exposure.
salix - AltLd - 17/Mar/13 with Tom

Did after Scabbard Chimney (P3). Adam lead P1, P3, I lead P2 and after P3 (moving together) to the top. This route required taxing moves and is a descent route. Poorly protected, though. Harder and more serious than Scabbard Chimney.
masa-alpin - AltLd O/S - 02/Feb/13 with Adam Booth

Harder and bolder than scabbard chimney so I think grade V is entirely justified (used to get IV). There was one quite hard pull round a roof on super thin ice, that I was basically soloing. Would recommend this one if you're looking for your first grade IV! Good combo with Scabbard chimney. 50m ropes got us back to broad gully from the rap point.

Quite a lot of snow on approach and on the ledges, but the racks were clear, and the climbing good, particularly the second (crux) pitch.

First (completed) Scottish winter route. Loving it!
