Dangerous Dave 23/Apr AltLd O/S

Led the 1st 2 pitches in one mega pitch. Felt run out this way as I prob didn't have enough screws. Climbing seemed easy so maybe V 4?

Led the two ice pitches in one 60m pitch. Good conditions.

Team just starting so went up left and merged back to RH line. 1st time placements throughout. Claggy & windy so missed obvious exit as I veered right. Had to carve through a soft & horrible cornice which was tiring. Got a face full of wind&snow as I searched for solid axes to bring my body to where my head was. Felt like an age.

Pleased with myself after leading the first two 30 meter ice pitches as they were my first grade 5 leads in my first winter climbing season. The first 15ish meters of the route was not overly steep climbing but the ice that came out of the screws was cruddy. When I got to a small snow scoop in the ice a little higher up the ice became more thick and vertical so the climbing became harder but the screw placements became much better. Ran out of screws at one point and made a quick belay near the top, when I brought up my partner I continued to the start of the gullies and made a bomber ice screw belay. Lead with a pair of fly's which bashed my knuckles a bit as they didn't go over the ice bulges well, will buy a pair of apex's for next years Scottish winter as I aim to get much more grade 5 leads in. This route gave me more confidence towards my climbing, I really recommend it to anyone thinking about attempting it as its felt like a three star route.

And so ends the season (for me). Plenty ice - some chewy and some brittle. Windy on top.

Climbed in cloud, water running down the route. But ice solid enough - good day out!

Fat plastic ice all the way, first time placements in snow-ice. Moved together on final pitch.

In 3 pitches, led 1 & 3. Good quality ice, screw belays on every pitch bar the classic 'sling round the trig' on top. Pretty soft-touch V.

Wasn't sure what to find after yesterday's thaw, but this and it's left-hand twin were in good condition.

smithaldo 19/Feb/12 AltLd O/S

A nice route, steep and sustained first pitch, horrible tied off ice screw belay and easier above, with no cornice. Dropped a screw that was picked up by a guy in gardyloo, please pm me if it was you and you will be rewarded in heaven.

Was aiming for Indicator Wall but pretty sure we ended up on the RH variation. Good route, poor belays made it feel quite serious mind. Done as 4 pitches, led 1, 2 and 4.

Lovely route at present, good airy moves linking various ramps but never too steep. Did all the steep stuff as one long pitch and Sophie did the excellent final corner and easy cornice to the world's easiest belay!

sophiecb 14/Jan/12 AltLd O/S

In two pitches. Chad led the steep stuff and I led the final 80m. First day on the Ben and first winter lead. Spectacular top out and belay.
