A slightly worrying climb, not to mention the complete silence going on whilst Mike led The Brush Off, protection is pretty poor until after some tricky moves. The traverse out right is easy which I was a bit worried about, but then had to make a step up probably 6/7m above the deck with a two lobes of a cam in a slightly flaring crack (yep it would have pulled...) luckily after that move, you get some bomber cams for the next few crucial moves. Really enjoyed this and seem to getting a few more E1 ticks now!

Took a bad fall. No memory of incident so don't really know what happened. It was a dampish day - maybe slipped? Anyway, gear ripped and hit deck from high up. Lost consciousness for several minutes, but luckily this was a helmet wearing day. All 12 ribs on right broken, punctured lung. Apparently, breaking rib no. 1 carries 50% mortality rate. Might have died at crag if Edale MRT doctors hadn't performed emergency needle decompression. Thank you Medical Officer Dr Steve Rowe, star of 'Helicopter Heroes!' 3 Weeks in NGH Sheffield, including a surprisingly enjoyable Xmas Day. Rib cage rebuilt with titanium by Mr John Edwards, an innovative young surgeon. Left with low level chronic pain, minor nerve damage. Maybe slight personality change (generally calmer, weirdly). Small price to pay. Lucky man. God bless the volunteer ethic and the NHS.

steve wanted to do 'the 'it looks like a ruler durr!' brush off. mean while 3 competent climbers and a young whippersnapper were doing the rounds on 'fringe benefit'. after careful deliberation, 3 cups of sugar water with a hint of coffee, and several pate sangers, we decide the best course of action would be for me to tonk the hell outta fringe benefit, steve seconds it to get a feel the the face and then does brush off. after a few strikes off the green wellington we got on with the plan. all was going well until stage three when pansy ramsden escaped from the brush off with not a shred of dignity left. a memorable set of events. oh yeah routes not bad 3 bits of gear bomber half cam. nice moves.
