Crag features

Goulier is only a small crag, with a smaller set of routes, but the approach is fairly easy and the setting is quite sublime. All but one of the routes is in the ever-popular 5-6b category. Those operating in that range will have a good day here. The descent from the Vicdessos Via Ferrata passes the end of the crag, so the possibility of a mixed day exists. There is even a small via ferrata running across the crag just above the routes, joining up with the main one that comes up from the left.

The crag faces due south. It takes no significant drainage, but will be exposed to the wind. It should be a good venue on a clear winter's day.

Approach notes

The typical Pyrenean village of Goulier is set above the Vicdessos/Auzat/Niaux valley. Reach it via a left turn just before the road turns right over the river in Vicdessos. Drive up to Goulier (4km) and continue as the road loops left by the church, then back right to bypass the village. 300m after the road swings right there is parking on the right-hand side for half-a-dozen cars by a B&B.

Walk back down the road for 140m to a track on the right that heads into the woods. Follow this as it rises gradually (this is the descent path from the Via Ferrata). After about 15 mins there is a wooden sign which points down and left to a cave and the climbing. A cable runs along the face to the committing ledge near the cave.
