Port Vasgo

Climbs 14 – Rocktype Schist – Altitude 1m a.s.l – Faces W

Crag features

The main climbing area is dominated by an amazing prow of rock, The Skull Island area lies just behind it.

Please read the access issues below and enjoy the climbing.

Approach notes

Follow the road signposted Port Vasgo and park sensibly at the end. Please note - not in the turning place. Pass the gate and follow a grassy track for 5 minutes toward a beach. The main climbing area is on the headland right of this beach facing an island.

Skull Island area can be accessed by a scramble and step across the gap (not for the faint hearted).

Access notes

Great care must be taken by anyone climbing here as the coastal area at Port Vasgo is covered by an SSSI - Special Site of Scientific Interest. This whole stretch of coast is magnificent for flowers and birds. Port Vasgo also gets nesting kestrels on occasion, please be aware in nesting seasons and notify the moderator if nesting birds are seen.

Climbers must also be aware that the Scottish Primrose grows at Port Vasgo all around the headland where the climbing areas are. This is a flower inherently valuable to British Fauna. Scottish Primrose is indigenous to Scotland and found only along the north coast and Orkney. This flower is protected by law!

Camping is best avoided completely up on the headland.
