Party returning from Volcan Cayambe 2012 © terragait

Crag features

A glaciated volcano which is still deemed to be active, Cayambe is the coldest and highest point on the equator and offers technically easy alpine climbing. The glacier is heavily crevassed and route finding can be difficult once clouds move in from mid-morning.

Approach notes

Buses available from Quito to Cayambe region. A 4WD needed to gain access to the hut which has good basic facilities.
