Crag features

Popular due to its close proximty to Melbourne (45 minutes drive) Werribee Gorge offers a range of single pitch sport and trad routes on composite sandstone like rock. A lot of construction work has been undertaken recently to minmise the environmental impact of climbing including many fixed belay posts at the top of the crag. Note care should be taken as the rock is brittle and loose in many places. For further reading see:

No Access Issues

Please note access has recently changed. The new description is outlined below.

The car park for the access point is actually between the rail crossing and the bridge. It’s a little parking bay on the right as you approach the trestle bridge. The path is well marked with wooden signposts with orange arows. This new trail follows an old railway worker trail part way down the first gully then follows the creek bed before heading up a ridge and following a spur into the trail on the other side of the fence.

famously rubbish to melbourne locals, but not too bad. some of the bolted lines are good, esp the the minor classic redex irlont sudano and its much harder neighbour nero on the rampage. worth a day out if stuck in melbourne.
