Apparently, Goethe visited the boulders on a geological research trip and later set the Walpurgis Night scene of Faust here...

Access notes
The crag is 100m from Schierke train station which is on tourist steam train track: http://www.hsb-wr.de (Trains run every hour or so and costs €26). You can park at the station for €5 or for free in the town which is about 30min walk down the hill. There's also a bus into Schierke from Wernigerode, number 257 http://www.wvb-gmbh.de/ for €5).
