Crag features

The rock has become extremely polished over the years and there is a lot of bouldering with a tricky lower traverse and a bold higher traverse to play around on.

The guides 'lakes bouldering' and 'lancashire rock' use different names and grades and only have a few of the climbs on the left wall, anything on the central and far wall past 'Swinging groove / Birks corner' appear in the original routes done by Al Phizacklea in 'Rock Climbing in Lancashire and the Noth West'they start at number 6 on the picture.I use these grades plus the V grade as iv'e always seen it as training. Also included are those from 'Eden Valley and South Lakes Limestone' which has some more up to date climbs.

There is a picture of the routes given by Al Phizacklea below and the alternative names have been given. If anyone has any information on why the climbs are different in the other guides please leave a comment.

Approach notes

The quarry is located behind Ulverston on Public land. If you're driving towards Barrow, turn left at the traffic lights by Trinity House in Ulverston and follow Mountbarrow Road passed Ulverston Victoria High School until you some lanes. Follow these until you reach a cattle grid and the quarry is on your left hand side.

Lakes Bouldering

The first dedicated bouldering guidebook to the Lake District, spanning a range of areas largely in the National Park and all north and west of the M6 junction 36. The guide is intended to be useful to the visiting climber looking for a day or evening's light bouldering just as much as the hard-core local with decent coverage for the V1 and V9 boulderer alike.
