On Peakstone Rock - one of Staffordshire's most sought after summits © Richard J

Crag features

This is a peculiar group of rocks and buttresses forming a small ridge with a pinnacle halfway along, situated on the south side of a shallow hollow on Alton Common. Interest is concentrated on the south face. The climbing is mainly on pebbles, generally fairly solid, and gives unique and fingery climbing. The crag dries quickly, and is ideal for an evening visit.

Approach notes

The crag is difficult to locate on your first visit. Park in the Peakstone Inn car park (the owners don't seem to mind especially if you buy a pint afterwards). Walk along the road for 300m (towards Cheadle), then follow a farm track, past a bungalow to a farm at the end. The cliff is across the field at the below to the right some 400m away. Permission at the local farm should be requested and this has always been granted. Since a public footpath passes the cliff, it would be very difficult not to.
