Etymology:
After Johan Hjort, 1869-1948, Norwegian biologist and oceanographer, professor of marine biology at the University of Oslo, who took active part in the exploration of and research work concerning the Atlantic and North European Seas. Director of the Board of Fisheries 1900-17, where Iversen was adviser.
