Crag features

A crag with both bouldering and ice climbing.

There's plenty of opportunity to find ice between Ila and Trolla. This location refers specifically to an obvious, short but entertaining roadside icefall and not necessarily the 'Trolla' location in the guidebooks.

There are also a number of enjoyable boulder problems situated in the forest inland from the NTNU Biology Station. There are plenty of easy climbs as well as some slightly harder.

Approach notes

No access issues with regards to climbing here, but the icefall is very close to the road so exercise caution with regards to falling ice and if top roped it is suggested belaying from the top.

Parking can be found at various intervals along the road but do avoid stopping in bus stops.

Alternatively the ice can be passed and then the Brænnebukta turn off (officially a foot/bike path but can be accessed so far) can be taken a little way, park near the house and walk up the designated footpath to the ice and climb over the barrier.

For the bouldering: walk up the hill via the track near the "biologen" bus stop, turn right onto a small path and head up the hill. Enjoy following the winding paths to the boulders. One can also access the boulders from the top of the hill, follow Strandlinja and with some guess work turn right onto a small path near a bench.
