The Gross Muttenhorn, from the connecting ridge to the Tallistock © rlrs
The Gross Muttenhorn at 3099m is the highest peak of the Muttenhörner and together with the Klein Furkahorn, creates the 2431m Furka pass which forms the gateway between the Rhône valley and the Urseren valley.
While the peak is perhaps more renowned as a ski tour, the normal route (west ridge) in summer is a pleasant and accessible walk with a bit of good scrambling. Harder routes on the north and east ridges also exist. The secondary Chil and Stotzig summits seem to be less well frequented, and also harder than the Gross Muttenhorn west ridge.
